You can indeed sequence drums (and synths) on the Push, with a variety of views.
It's a physical interface designed for, and tightly integrated with, Ableton Live. But if the Prophet’s not around … this idea of missing that richness it brings, could be just an idea. As someone who's owned a Push 2 for a few years and just bought a Deluge (so I can ditch the PC), I would strongly recommend you look harder at the Push for your use case. Comparing A to B when you got gear next to each other is one thing, the difference is huge when you stack a Prophet against a Deluge. For kit clips, each row of pads represents an entirely different sound, as opposed to a different. The synth engine certainly has character and it has this certain melancholia and nostalgia over it, which keeps pulling me back in. Instead of having a synth assigned, a clip may have a kit. Yeah, I got no work-around but the same experience as you I dial down the amp to avoid the synths from clipping when I play it, just like you.
